New cycle begins at Invertote

New cycle begins at Invertote.

It's an exciting week at OSH as the first smolts for the new cycle at Invertote are starting to arrive!

OSH works in partnership with Hendrix Genetics to grow organic smolts that are then transferred out to the OSH sea sites.

The growing cycle can be seperated into several different phases:

  • Eggs are placed into purpose-built incubators until they hatch.
  • Now known as fry, the fish are then transferred to hatchery tanks and then into outside tanks once the fish reach 4 grams in weight.
  • The fish are graded and vaccinated, before being transfered out to sea in Sept/Oct and March/April.
  • Each cycle takes less than a year.
